Everyone likes praise. Nothing brightens our day more than knowing we’ve made someone really happy with our work. And having them share that with the world… well that’s even better! With that in mind, when I read what Mary Dinneen (Mother of photographer/bride Alissa Dinneen) wrote to me after viewing her daughter’s wedding film (June 9th), I… I… well, just read on and see what I mean:

Dear Thomas,
In the hotel room the morning of Alissa’s wedding I wondered why you were taking pictures. SURPRISE NUMBER ONE…you weren’t. You WERE film-ing.
From 5th grade when Alissa carried my bags till she was 24 and the main photographer for Photography by Mary & Alissa Dinneen, we planned her wedding day. The dreams were perfect. SURPRISE NUMBER TWO…reality isn’t. You WERE film-ing.
The final months before The Day brought relentless winter storms and challenges. John and Alissa’s wedding was a blur, a silent movie in my mind. I watched as the slides flickered. SURPRISE NUMBER THREE…The camera of my mind was out of focus. You WERE film-ing.
My only memory of you is in that hotel room. I saw another man at the reception. He must have been with you. Time passed. Life marched on. I forgot you were ever at the wedding. SURPRISE NUMBER FOUR…the morning Alissa sent me your Video Highlight of their wedding. You WERE film-ing.
Like the force of the violent storm and rain that struck last night, emotions pelted through me as I watched the dreams that were a blur unfold. I am so overwhelmed by the force of what you created in that highlight. SURPRISE NUMBER SIX…Vantage Point Films captured the heart and soul of the wedding and the future’s promise for our families. You WERE film-ing.
I am lost for words to express the magnitude of the effect the video has had on me. I spent twenty five years doing wedding photography for others, treating each one like my own. It is so different being on the other side of the lens and Alissa being the bride. SURPRISE NUMBER SEVEN… LUCKY SEVEN. You WERE film-ing.
With deep gratitude and respect I thank you, for the visual of JOY that unfolded dreams and plans of a lifetime for Alissa’s wedding day. “Images the Heart Remembers” (my tagline) to cherish the rest of our lives.
Mary Dinneen, Mother of the Bride
I never imagined dedicating an entire blog post to one testimonial/thank you, but after reading that, I’m sure you get it. Thanks Mary… you made our year!

In late April we took our show on the road to The Garden State. Who knew the state known for Bon Jovi and Snookie would prove to also give us one of our classiest and most beautiful weddings of the year?

Corinne and Matt chose the ridiculously beautiful Mallard Island Yacht Club on Long Beach Island for the ceremony and reception. We see a lot of gorgeousness, and this place was right up there with the best of them! Also making the trip south were photographers Eric and Amber from Raw Photo Design. This wedding was tailor-made for their style, made obvious by some of their fav shots here. You’ll say ‘wow’.

Here are some more talented folks who lent their skills to the big day: Caterer: Merri Makers Catering / Makeup: Magnifique Makeup by Dominique / Hair Styling: Aqua Blue Salon in LBI / Floral Design: MDS Floral Design / Stationary Design: Stephanie Somodi / Gown designed by Ines Di Santo via Bridal Reflections / Bride’s shoes by Benjamin Adams /  DJ: Craig Scott Entertainment

It’s always an honor to be chosen to film someone’s wedding. A couple is trusting you with their biggest day, knowing you’ll produce a visual history that tells their story in a creative way. So when a respected and talented wedding photographer like Alissa Dinneen chooses you to film their wedding, it means even more! It was also an opportunity to work with Laura Pineda from Alternate Angles. Along with her husband Ricardo, they created some stunning images. Check out some shots of the day here.

Here’s some of the All-Star group of vendors Alissa and John included in their big day:  Coordinator/Stationary : Talia from Sixpence for Your Shoe; Photographer : Laura and Ricardo – Alternate Angles; Florist : Jessica’s Country Flowers; Caterer : Emily’s Catering Group; Cake : Something Sweet by Michelle; DJ : Butch Gray DJ; Ceremony Musicians : Wild Wood Groups; JP : Rev. Victoria Burdick; Lighting : Shindig Lighting, LLC; Hair and Make-up: Naomi and Angela for Naomi Martinez Salon and Spa; Wedding Site : Connecticut’s Old State House; Wedding Gown and accessories, MOB Gown, Girl’s Dresses : The White Dress by the Shore

Melissa and Peter’s wedding was one of our favorites from 2010! Check out their highlight film and you’ll see why! It was also just featured on Style Me Pretty’s Little Black Book Blog, which is a HUGE deal for us because SMP is highly regarded as a source for the top vendors. Working alongside us that day were Candice from Jubilee Events, Katie Slater from Carla Ten Eyck Photography, and Tony from Datura, A Modern Garden. And a huge congratulations to Melissa and Peter, who not only threw one hell of a party, but were fantastic to work with too!

In the first of what we hope will be a weekly post, we’d like to introduce you to some of the vendors who we have found to be at the top of their industry. If you’ve spent any time researching wedding vendors, you know there is a huge range of talent out there, and an equally wide range of prices. It can be a little confusing for the couple who are doing this for the first (and the last!) time. Hopefully this will serve you as a resource… to help you find not only talented people, but also those who play nice with others. Every weekend, we see these people in action, and each of them can bring something very special to your day. That’s why we work with them, and that’s why we refer them with confidence…

Today’s inaugural post highlights Ronnie Mazal of Musically Yours Premiere DJ Services. Most of us have been to a wedding where the biggest buzz kill in the room was the guy who was supposed to keep the party rockin’. Well have no fear! We’ve seen Ronnie in action, and no one is better at keeping people up and dancing. Of course, some think that’s best accomplished with beach balls, inflatable saxophones, and glowing plastic roses. Blahhh! Musically Yours needs no such cheese.

When I sat down with Ronnie, and asked him what set him apart from his competition, his answer was, “The ability to adapt… all weddings are different, as are all couples, so the DJ who has one set style regardless of the situation is really doing his clients a disservice. By getting to know the couple’s musical tastes and style ahead of time, we can provide services that best suit the couple.”

Musically Yours can be reached @ 203.653.2877 or by e-mail @ ronnie@musicallyyoursonline.com

P.S. Let ‘em know Vantage Point Films sent you!

Patrycia and Marcin are one of those couples who, after the wedding, you’re just really happy for. Happy that the wedding went off without a hitch, and they just seemed so happy to be together and to be getting married. I wish there was more to write about it… but why drag something that simple out more than I must? After the ceremony in Stamford, it was off to the popular Water’s Edge at Giovanni’s in Darien, where we’ve always been impressed by their great staff.

We were also part of an all-star cast that helped make Patrycia and Marcin’s wedding day such a great event! Makeup was done by Stacey from Blush Couture, and Naomi from Naomi’s Studio & Salon was the hairstylist. We teamed up with Eric and Nicole from Raw Photo Design, and as usual, their creativity is just beyond words. Check out Patrycia and Marcin’s photos here. And this was our first time working with Ronnie from Musically Yours. We were so impressed with him, we’ve since invited him to join the Studio. If you’re looking for a DJ who rocks, Ronnie is your boy!

Let’s start off 2011 with a bang! Margy + Mike’s wedding was really very special. The ceremony was held at Battell Chapel on the Yale campus. It is a gorgeous old church tucked into those great little Yale area neighborhoods. In between, I took a visual artist backseat to THE Carla Ten Eyck, as she made the most of the area architecture and came up with some fantastic stuff. Check out photographs from the entire wedding here. Afterwards, it was on to the New Haven Lawn Club for the reception, which became a favorite of ours in 2010. Enjoy the highlight film…

So psyched today! RockNRollBride.com just did a feature on our May 1st wedding (Alicia and Jack), showcasing our work as well as photographs from Carla Ten Eyck Photography. Based in Great Britain, Rock ‘n Roll Bride “promotes individuality and general awesomeness in a cookie cutter, pastel pink, poofy dressed wedding world.”

Check out their blog post here. For the bride that’s looking for a little extra wedding flavor, it’s an awesome resource for cool ideas. Thanks to Kat, the original Rock ‘n Roll Bride for adding our work to her blog.

Where to start? Oh, I don’t know. I guess with, Holy S%$#, California couple Alicia and Jack are AWESOME! And their wedding rocked! Beginning with a pre-wedding photo tour of Hartford by none other than Carla Ten Eyck Photography, whose creativity and skillz meshed perfectly with Alicia and Jack’s edgy-yet-sophisticated style. If you don’t believe me, check out their stunning photos from the wedding here. I had a whole wedding’s worth of great footage before the ceremony even started! The ceremony and reception were both held at the G. Fox Room in Downtown Hartford, and again, was an awesome fit for this wedding. Jessica, the Sales Manager and Event Coordinator is really great to work with if you’re considering the G. Fox Room.

Congratulations to Alicia and Jack, Enjoy the highlight film…

The last two years, I’ve had ridiculously good luck shooting March weddings! The ‘Murphy’s Law’ in me imagines late winter ice storms and similar nightmares, but it’s been great weather, great light, and really cool weddings! Gail and Scott’s big day was no exception. After a ceremony at St. Mary’s in Katonah, It was off to familiar territory at The Candlewood Inn in Brookfield, CT.

I got the chance to work with a new photographer also… Nick Carter. I checked out him out after the wedding, and he does really nice work. Plus, bonus points: he was great to work with and über-professional, so check him out.

Best wishes to the new bride and groom! I had a great time capturing your big day, and I hope you enjoy your highlight film.
